‘In her solace’ captures Joy’s friend Tola, who had just celebrated her birthday and in this moment she witnessed this beautiful moment. Bathed in soft, warm light, she exudes an elegant ease, as her arms and legs gracefully extend beyond our view, somehow symbolizing her unlimited reach. In this moment, Tola reminded her of the gracefulness and effortlessness innate in black women.
ARTIST PROFILE:
Joy Adeola (b. 1999) is a Nigerian-Canadian photographer based within the GTA. Through storytelling, she captures the vitality of life and human relationships, documenting their changing rhythms in ways that are dually universal and intimate.
