As a black woman curating an exhibition that celebrates the lifestyle of black women, I found it imperative to choose a name that encapsulates the essence of our collective experience. During Summer 2023, while strolling through the vibrant streets of Kensington during a pedestrian Sunday, I encountered a fellow black woman whose outfit caught my eye. In that moment, the natural response was to exclaim, "That's a beautiful outfit, sis." "Sis" is more than just a word; it's a comforting term deeply rooted in the black community. For many of us, it signifies a sense of kinship and belonging, offering solace and support in a world that may often feel challenging.

Hey Sis..., an exhibition meticulously curated to unveil the multifaceted essence of the black woman, spanning from the everyday to the extraordinary facets of our lifestyle. It aims to challenge prevailing media portrayals by revealing the diverse and nuanced layers of our identity. What better way to convey this narrative than through the lens of eight black female artists, expressing their perspective through four mediums: painting, photography, digital art, and documentary.
